Info
- RAA welcomes players of all skill levels.
- RAA welcomes parent coaches.
- Open for all. Your child does not need to attend Ridgedale to play or cheer in the league.
- Goal is to build confidence for players to succeed on the court, in the classroom and in life.
- Focus on skill development.
- Healthy balance of fun recreation and competition.
- Balanced teams. No "buy in all-star teams."
- Experienced coaches ready to assist if volunteers want it.
- First week of practice will go over drills, game readiness, sportsmanship, and communication with players and refs.
- Convenient TeamSnap app to communicate effectively between coaches and parents.
Season
- Registration opens Sept.29 - Oct. 31st.
- Skill Evaluations Nov. 10-14. Times TBA.
- Practices start Dec. 1 (Mon-Fri.)
- 1st game planned Dec. 6-7(Sat/Sun)
- Games each weekend Dec. 6 - March 8.
- Practices Mon. - Fri. 2x per week.
- Play ~10 games per year. Typically, 1 each weekend.
- All teams make playoffs.
- Single elimination playoffs.
- 30 second shot clocks.
- 2 halves with running clock.
- Championships for each division, except PreK.
Rostering
- Skill evaluations for each division.
- Coach's, please show up for your divisions Skill Evaluation.
- Do our best to honor friend and coach requests first.
- Fill in roster to keep balanced teams.
- Score players 1-5 (low to high) on basic skills.
- Draft in order according to friend requests, coach request and skill rank.
- Limited player trades after all teams are made.
- Goal is to create balanced rosters.
Middle School
- Middle school may differ from grade school rostering and skill evaluations.
- May not have skill evaluations, depends on time of middle school tryouts.
- If there is a group of players that would like play together, please make a coach and/or friend request when registering.
- Goal is to keep friends together and roster balanced teams.
- Play cross town games against other teams/leagues.
- Plan to have 10 games on schedule.
- Practice 2x per week at Mylan.
- 1 game per weekend at Ridgedale (or other Venue).
- Parent coaches wanted and welcome.
- Relaxed format. Mix it up, 3v3, shootouts, pickup games always an option.
Coach Assist
- If you and your assistant coach need help or can't make it to a practice or game, please reach out to your Site Coordinator to arrange a fill in.
- RAA will have an experienced coaching staff available for any parent's coaches that want a little extra help running drills, practices or games.
- Hoops WV has worked with RAA in the offseason to provide gym space and workouts at no cost.
- Hoops WV coaches are only here to offer help with their experience and knowledge if you want it. This is not a lead coach program.
- Hoops WV is owned and operated by Benjamin Long. Ben is a Site Coordinator for RAA and a Graduate Assistant and basketball player at Salem International University.
